Jug Band Millionaire

by The Muddy Basin Ramblers

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

It's a CD; it's a book! CD comes packaged within a beautifully printed, 7" x 7" card-bound, 33-page booklet with song notes and tidbits on jug band history, sheet music for select songs, hand-drawn illustrations, and other visual amusements. In English with translation into traditional Mandarin. The book and CD package's vintage-style design was inspired by artwork from early 20th century sheet music, and was lovingly created by our ace friends at Onion Design Associates. For traditional paper-printing enthusiasts, the CD pocket is letterpress-printed.

The album comes with a bonus track: our rock-steady rendition of the 1930s Taiwanese folk classic 四季紅 (Four Seasons of Red), with special guest Lo Sirong on vocals.

about

For this 2024 release, the Ramblers return to their roots and offer tribute to the "Jug Band Millionaires" who left this world a unique conduit to musical joy and down-home wisdom. We play songs by (or in the style of) blues troubadours Will Shade, Sleepy John Estes and early-20th-century jazz mavens like Clarence Williams and Earl McDonald and the Dixieland Jug Blowers. Also, since we live on an island, we give musical shout-outs to ocean-bound artists like Bahamian singer/banjoist Blind Blake Alfonso and 1930s Taiwanese pop composer Teng Yu-hsien (see bonus track). Get the CD+Book and play along! Sheet music is included for select tunes, along with beautiful vintage-inspired artwork, illustrations, and informative historical notes.
